Introducing De-escalation Basics^TM, a Foundational Schoolwide Training from CPI

Creating a safe learning environment for all is crucial in today's educational landscape. A recent study showed that 8 out of 10 teachers encounter behavioral issues at least a few times each week, with nearly 60% reporting that these disruptions occur daily. Disruptive behaviors can have a significant impact on everyone in the classroom, resulting in heightened stress and decreased academic performance for students, as well as increased burnout and turnover rates for staff.

Acknowledging this challenge, Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) developed De-escalation Basics™, an online training course designed to equip all educators and support staff with the foundational skills to manage and reduce disruptions, keeping students on track for academic success. De-escalation Basics offers a cost-effective solution that empowers entire teams—from teachers to cafeteria staff—to build more positive and productive schools. 

How De-escalation Basics Works 

When it comes to implementing a new training program across an organization, efficiency is key—and De-escalation Basics achieves this goal. 

In less than one hour, staff will learn the fundamentals of how behavior can escalate and how to reduce conflict, focusing on students’ safety in and out of the classroom. 

The training is delivered in an online, on-demand format to accommodate educators’ busy schedules. The course is structured into three lessons that provide practical skills to identify, manage, and prevent disruptive behaviors. Throughout the lessons, educators will become familiar with CPI concepts such as Precipitating Factors and the Integrated Experience. At the end of the course, participants will take a brief quiz to test their knowledge and receive access to a guide with important terms to remember.
