Connecticut Senate Bill 970: Workplace Violence Prevention and Response in Health Care Settings
Connecticut’s New Hospital Violence Prevention Rules
On June 8, 2011, Connecticut passed Senate Bill 970, An Act Concerning Workplace Violence Prevention and Response in Health Care Settings.
On or before October 1, 2011, each health care employer shall establish and convene an ongoing workplace safety committee to address issues related to the health and safety of health care employees. Each health care employee shall undertake a risk assessment of the factors that put any health care employee at risk for being a victim of workplace violence.
Based on the findings of the risk assessment, on or before January 1, 2012, and on or before each January first thereafter, each health care employer, in collaboration with the workplace safety committee, shall develop and implement a written workplace violence prevention and response plan that shall:
- Include appropriate health care employee training.
- Monitor incidents and situations involving workplace violence or the risk of violence.
Is Your Hospital Prepared to Meet Connecticut’s New Rules?
CPI is the standard-setting provider of behavior management training that equips employees to have an immediate, tangible, and lasting positive impact on the people and organizations they serve. Since 1980, more than six million human service providers—including tens of thousands in the health care field—have participated in the Nonviolent Crisis Intervention® training program and learned how to safely manage disruptive behavior at the earliest possible stage. The program also teaches safe, nonharmful emergency restraint techniques to be used only as a last resort, when an individual is a danger to self or others
CPI has numerous training programs coming to Connecticut, and an on-site training option is also available.
We look forward to sharing our core philosophy of Care, Welfare, Safety, and SecuritySM with you, your staff, and those in your care.
