Crisis Prevention Institute, Inc. and its affiliates (“CPI” “our” “we” “us”) respects your privacy and is committed to protecting your Personal Data. This Privacy Notice discloses how CPI collects, uses, stores, protects, and otherwise processes Personal Data.
This Privacy Notice applies to CPI’s website, https://www.crisisprevention.com (“Website”), including all global website versions of the Website and any other website that posts or links to this Privacy Notice, any cloud-based technology learning platform accessible through the Website, the video players used to view CPI courses, and the mobile applications made accessible by CPI (“Platform” and together with the Website, are collectively referenced as the “Site”). This Privacy Notice may also apply where we collect your Personal Data and provide a copy of or link to this Privacy Notice, e.g., at an in-person event.
1. Personal Data We Collect
“Personal Data” is any information by which you may be personally identified, or that relates to, describes, references, is capable of being associated with, or could reasonably be linked, directly or indirectly, with a person or a household (such as a name, email address or identification number). “Personal Data” does not include information which is generally not considered “personal information” or “Personal Data” under applicable law, such as information that has been anonymized or aggregated or is otherwise maintained in a form that is not capable of being associated with or reasonably linked to an individual.
Our Collection and Use of Personal Data
CPI collects Personal Data from you through our interactions with you and through our Site. You provide some of this data directly, and we get some of it by collecting data about your interactions, use, and experiences with our Site. The data we collect depends on the context of your interactions with us and the choices you make, including your privacy settings and the services and features you use. We also obtain data about you from third parties.
You have choices when it comes to the technology you use and the data you share. When we ask you to provide Personal Data, you may decline under certain circumstances. However, many of our products, services, and features available through the Site require some Personal Data to provide you with that product, service, or feature. If you choose not to provide the data required to provide you with a particular product, service, or feature, you cannot use that product, service, or feature. For example, where providing the data is optional, and you choose not to share Personal Data, features like personalization that use such data will not work for you.
We collect the following Personal Data about you:
- Personal Data you provide to us: This is Personal Data that you give us directly when you interact with us. You may give it to us by filling out a form on our Site, registering on our Site, or by corresponding with us by phone, e-mail, or at an in-person event, or through interactions in a CPI-sponsored forum. It includes contact information, such as your first and last name, email address, employer, type of organization, work phone number, postal/zip code, and country.

- Payment Processing Data: When you purchase a product or service, we and our third-party service providers may collect information relating to your transactions with us, including details regarding payments you’ve made through our Site. We use third-party payment tools to process and store payment information like credit card numbers or bank account information. We don’t store this information ourselves and it is not within CPI’s control. If the payment and billing information is linked to you personally, this will be Personal Data. If it is only linked to a company, it will not be Personal Data. In these circumstances, please also review the privacy terms of the third-party processors as these may apply.
- Personal Data we collect about you from your use of our Site: We and our third-party providers automatically collect information from you each time you visit or interact with our Site, whether or not you enter the Site as a registered user. This includes technical information, information about your visit, and information about your activity on our Site such as courses searched and viewed, length of visit to certain pages, page interaction information (such as scrolling, clicks, and mouseovers), methods to browse to and away from a page, and methods used to contact our sales and support teams. Technical information may also include the internet protocol (IP) address used to connect your device to the internet, unique device identifiers, your login information, browser type and version, time zone setting, browser plug-in types and versions, operating systems, and device platform.
Specifically, we and our third-party partners may use tracking technologies to automatically collect commercial information, preferences, and internet, network and device information, including:

- Personal Data processed through social media platform plugins embedded in CPI’s website: We process your Personal Data through CPI’s social media plugins embedded in our Site. CPI and these social media sites are joint controllers regarding insight data (e.g., data relating to how often you visit the CPI’s social media pages, whether you recommend them, etc.) (“Insight Data”).

- Analytics: We may use, or utilize third party providers to do so on our behalf, analytics to help us better understand what features and parts of the website are most useful, and which ones may need to be improved. We may use web analytics tools provided by service providers, including but not limited to, Google Analytics, FullStory, and Pendo. - Cookies and other technologies: We use cookies, pixels, tags, and other technologies, which may be provided by third parties, on our Site to enable certain functionality and for security and fraud detection and prevention, as well as to collect usage information about our Site and the emails that we send and to personalize content and provide more relevant ads and information. We may combine the information we collect via these technologies with other information, including Personal Data. For example, cookies help us with things like remembering your username for your next visit, understanding how you are interacting with our Services, and improving them based on that information. You can set your browser to not accept cookies, but this may limit your ability to use our Site. We may also use third-party service providers that set cookies and similar technologies to promote our products and services. You can learn more about how cookies and similar technologies work, as well as how to opt out or refuse the use of them for advertising purposes, here.
- Do Not Track: Please note that we do not recognize or respond to any signal which your browser might transmit through the “Do Not Track” feature your browser might have. If you wish to disable cookies on our Platform, you should not rely on any “Do Not Track” feature your browser might have.
- Personal Data we receive from other sources: This is information we receive about you from third parties with whom we work closely to provide, promote, and improve our business. These third parties include business partners, vendors who assist in technical and payment services, advertising networks, analytics providers, and search information providers.

2. Children
Our websites and online services are not directed to, and we do not intend to knowingly collect or solicit Personal Data from children under the age of 16. If you are under the age of 16, please do not use our websites or online services or otherwise provide us with any Personal Data either directly or by other means. If a child under the age of 16 has provided Personal Data to us, we encourage the child’s parent or guardian to contact us as described below to request that we remove the Personal Data from our systems. If we learn that any Personal Data we collect has been provided by a child under the age of 16, we will promptly delete that Personal Data.
3. Why We Use Your Personal Data
CPI uses the Personal Data you provide in a manner that is consistent with this Privacy Notice as follows:
- Provision of products and services: We use your Personal Data to provide you with our products and services through our Site as required to perform the contract we have with you. If our contract is with your employer, we use your Personal Data to provide you or your employer with our products and services because it is in our legitimate business interests to perform the contract we have with them. The services may include providing access to our course library, administration of your account, billing, and notifying you of changes to our services or your account. This Personal Data will also be used to allow you to participate in the interactive features of our Site, or to provide you with information you may have requested from us, including but not limited to access to whitepapers and webinars.
- Improvement of our Site: We use your Personal Data to continually improve our Site, including by way of the addition of new content, features, or capabilities. We process your Personal Data for this purpose because it is in our legitimate interest to improve our Site.
- Personalization: We use your Personal data to enhance the user experience based on prior interactions with our Site, but only if you provide your consent (where we are legally required to obtain your prior consent).
- Account Activation and Maintenance: Data such as device, network, and subscription identifiers are used to activate and maintain user accounts. The processing of Personal Data for this purpose is done as it is part of providing our products and services (see above).
- Support: We use your Personal Data to respond to your requests for assistance including password resets and general troubleshooting. The processing of Personal Data for this purpose is done as it is part of providing our products and services (see above).
- Analytics: We use your Personal Data to conduct research and analytics designed to understand our customer base and improve our business, products, services and customer experience based on our legitimate interests to develop commercial activities and improve our products and services. Where we are legally required to do so, we will obtain your prior consent before undertaking this processing.
- Safety and Security: We use your Personal Data to protect the safety and security of our users and our Site. This includes using data to detect malware and malicious activities, and to monitor for violations of our terms of use. We process your Personal Data as necessary to ensure the security and safety of CPI and other users of our Site. This is necessary for us to comply with data protection legislation (to secure your Personal Data) and because it is in our legitimate interests to keep our business and assets protected.
- Communications: We will use your Personal Data to communicate with you regarding your account and your use of our Site. The processing of Personal Data for this purpose is done as it is part of providing our products and services (see above).
- Marketing: We will use your Personal Data to provide you with information about our products and services that may interest you and enhance your interaction with our Site, to the extent that you have provided your consent (where we are legally required to obtain your consent prior to sending such marketing). We will communicate with you about these products and services via email, direct mail, or through our Site. These communications may include newsletters, promotional emails, or offers to participate in market research requests.
- Reporting and Business Operations: We will use your Personal Data to administer our Site and for internal operations, including troubleshooting, data analysis, testing, research, statistical survey purposes, and reporting on our performance on the basis of our legitimate interests to run our business smoothly and improve our Site. We will also use Personal Data for measuring the effectiveness of how we present content and for assessing the effectiveness of content. We use internet protocol (IP) addresses and other information that does not directly identify you in our log files to analyze trends, to administer our Site, to track users’ movements in and around our Site, and to gather demographic information about our user base as a whole on the basis of our legitimate interests to run our business smoothly and improve our services.
- To Protect CPI: Enforce, investigate, and resolve disputes and security issues and to enforce our Terms of Service and any other contracts on the basis of our legitimate interests to protect our business.
- Legal Compliance: We process Personal Data to comply with a legal obligation. For example, we may process your Personal Data to report any prizes or awards to an applicable taxing authority or in response to a court order or subpoena.
- Corporate Restructures: If we decide to sell, transfer, undertake a corporate reorganization or merge all or parts of our business, it may be necessary for us to share your Personal Data with those involved in such sale, transfer, reorganization or merger as part of the process, including for due diligence purposes. If a change such as those described here happens to our business, the new owners will use your Personal Data in the same ways described in this Privacy Notice. This is on the basis of our legitimate interests to grow or maintain our business.
- Our Legal Rights: To establish, exercise or defend a legal or regulatory claim.
- Other: We may also use your Personal Data in other ways that we will disclose to you. We will also obtain your consent to these further uses where we are legally required to do so.
4. Who We Disclose Personal Data To
We disclose Personal Data to certain third parties, or engage third parties to process Personal Data on our behalf, to enable them to fulfill the purposes described in Section 3 above. We will only disclose Personal Data that is relevant for the purpose for which it is to be used. We will not process your Personal Data in a way that is incompatible with these purposes.
- To Affiliates: CPI will not process your Personal Data with Affiliates.
- To Vendors and Service Providers: We sometimes retain third parties to perform certain business-related functions such as sending email on our behalf, payment processing, or conducting market research. When we employ another company to perform a function of this nature, we only provide them with the information necessary to perform their specific function. We also share user engagement information with third parties derived from our Site. These third parties are not permitted to use your Personal Data for any purpose other than as required for them to provide services to us.
- Payment processors: We engage third-party payment processors, including, but not limited to PayFabric and BrainTree, for the purpose of processing payments for your orders. All payment processors will employ appropriate security standards. We will only share the Personal Data necessary for these payment processors to process your payments.
- To Business Partners and Potential Buyers (and their agents and advisors): We may disclose your Personal Data to actual or potential buyers (and their agents and advisors) in connection with any actual or proposed purchase, merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, bankruptcy, receivership, sale of company assets or transition of services to another provider provided that we inform the buyer or transferee that it must use your Personal Data only for the purposes disclosed in this Privacy Notice.
- Legal Requirements: In certain situations, CPI may be obligated to disclose Personal Data to other parties, including government entities and regulators, to the extent necessary to: (i) comply with a government request or applicable law and to respond to legal process, (ii) prevent illegal uses of our Site or violations of our Site’s Terms of Use and our policies, (iii) defend ourselves against third party claims, and (iv) assist in fraud prevention or investigation (e.g., counterfeiting).
- To Third-Party Advertisers, Advertising Networks, and Social Media Platforms and Networks: Our Site may include social media plug-ins (such as the Facebook like button), widgets (such as the “Share” button), or other tools made available by third parties, such as social media companies, that may result in Personal Data being collected or shared between us and the third parties for various purposes, including to select and serve personalized advertisements to you and others. These third parties may set and access their own cookies, web beacons, and embedded scripts on your device, and they may otherwise collect or have access to Personal Data about you, including unique personal identifiers such as an IP address, and they may share that data with us. We also use third party services to match information that we hold with Personal Data in their database to create custom audiences and tailor advertising to your interests on the Internet, including social media, as permitted by applicable law. Your interactions with these third parties are governed by the third parties’ privacy policies.
- With Your Consent or Authorization: We may disclose your Personal Data to anyone for whom you have authorized disclosure of Personal Data consistent with this Privacy Notice.
- Other: We may disclose your Personal Data for any other purpose disclosed by us when you provide that Personal Data.
5. Marketing
You can make certain choices about our collection and use of your Personal Data and can exercise your data protection rights by contacting us or using features we provide for this purpose. In some cases, your ability to control your Personal Data may be limited, as required or permitted by applicable law or your employer or group sponsor (where applicable).
- Right to Opt-out of Direct Marketing: You can opt-out of receiving direct marketing from us by doing the following:
- Utilize the “Unsubscribe” link found in the emails we may send to you; or
- Contact us at support@crisisprevention.com. Before helping you with your request, we may ask to verify your identity or the identity of your authorized agent.
Please note that you will not be able to opt out from our communications that are related to the ongoing service and support of your account. Such communications are not marketing communications.
6. Managing Your Privacy Rights and Your Choices (For Users in the United States)
Privacy Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have certain rights, such as to request access to or correction of your Personal Data that we hold about you. Please refer to the section below to determine the rights you have in the state where you reside.
- Right to Know and to Access: You have the right to request that we disclose certain information to you about our collection and use of your Personal Data over the past 12 months. You also have the right to request access to Personal Data collected about you and information regarding the source of that data, the purposes for which we collect it, and the third parties and service providers with whom we share it. Once we receive your request in accordance with the “Exercising Your Rights and Choices” section below, we will disclose to you:
- The categories of Personal Data we have collected about you;
- The categories of sources for the Personal Data we collected about you;
- Our purposes for collecting, selling, or sharing that Personal Data;
- The categories of third parties with whom we disclose that Personal Data; and
- The specific pieces of Personal Data we collected about you.
You may only make a Right to Know request twice within a 12-month period free of charge.
- Right to Portability: You have the right to request that we provide a copy of the Personal Data we have collected about you, in a portable and, to the extent technically feasible, readily usable format that allows you to transmit the data to another entity without hindrance. Once we receive your request and confirm your identity, we will provide to you a copy of your data as required under the applicable data protection laws. We may provide this data to you through your account with us, or via email to the email address you have provided with your request.
- Right to Delete: You have the right to request that we delete any of your Personal Data that we have collected from you and retained, subject to certain exceptions. Once we receive and verify your request, we will delete (and, where required, direct our service providers, contractors, and third parties to whom we have sold or shared your Personal Data to delete) your Personal Data from our records, unless an exception under applicable law applies. We also may deny a deletion request if the Personal Data is required to complete the transaction for which the information was collected or to provide you with requested goods or services.
- Right to “Opt-out” of the Sale or Sharing of Personal Information for Cross-Context Behavioral Advertising or Targeted Advertising: You may request to opt-out of our sale of your Personal Data and sharing of your Personal Data for cross-context behavioral advertising or targeted advertising. We share your Personal Data with third parties (such as marketing and advertising networks and social media platforms) for behavioral advertising or disclose your Personal Data to other third-party partners in accordance with your privacy settings and/or consent. These types of disclosures of your Personal Data may be deemed a “sale” or “sharing” of your Personal Data under applicable privacy laws.
- Right to Correct Inaccurate Personal Data: You have the right to request that we correct any of your Personal Data that we maintain about you.
- Right to Non-Discrimination: We will not discriminate against you for choosing to exercise any of your rights. If you exercise certain rights, understand that you may be unable to use or access certain features of the Site. Unless permitted by applicable law, we will not: (i) deny you goods or services; (ii) charge you different prices or rates for goods or services, including through granting discounts or other benefits, or imposing penalties; (iii) provide you a different level or quality of goods or services; or (iv) suggest that you may receive a different price or rate for goods or services or a different level or quality of goods or services.
Exercising your Rights and Choices
You may submit privacy rights requests and manage your privacy choices in several ways.
- Submitting Privacy Rights Requests: You may request to access your Personal Data (both the categories of data we collect, which is laid out in this policy, and specific pieces of information), obtain an electronic copy of your Personal Data, correct your Personal Data if it is incomplete or inaccurate, or delete or restrict sharing of your Personal Data in certain circumstances, as provided by applicable law.
- Verification: We will verify your request either [through a message sent to the email address associated with your account (so you must have access to this email account) or by asking you to provide information matching what we have for you within our systems]. We will process your request based upon the Personal Data in our records that is linked or reasonably linkable to the information provided in your request. In some cases, we may request additional information to verify your request or where necessary to process your request. If we are unable to adequately verify a request, we will notify the requestor.
- Authorized Agents: You or your authorized agent may request to exercise your rights. Before we can act on a request from your authorized agent, we may require verification of your identity and proof from the authorized agent that they can act on your behalf. We may also require that the relevant consumer directly verify their identity and the authority of the authorized agent.
- Denials and Appeals: If we deny your request, we will notify you and provide our reasons for the denial and instructions regarding the rights you may have under applicable laws to appeal the decision. Please see the “Right to Appeal” section below for additional information about your rights.
Information for California Residents
This section provides California residents with additional information regarding our collection, use and disclosure of their Personal Data that supplements the disclosures in our Privacy Notice above. This section uses certain terms that have the meaning given to them in the California Consumer Privacy Act of 2018 (as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act of 2020) and its implementing regulations.
- Categories of Personal Data Collected: We collect the Personal Data detailed in Section 1 above.
- Categories of Personal Information Disclosed for Business Purposes: We may disclose the categories of Personal Data described above for the business purposes outlined in Section 3.
- Categories of Personal Data Shared with Third Parties: We share your Personal Data with third parties (such as marketing and advertising networks and social platforms) for behavioral advertising or with other third-party partners in accordance with your privacy settings and/or consent. These types of disclosures of your Personal Data may be deemed a “sale” or “sharing” of your Personal Data under California privacy laws. California privacy laws define a “sale” as disclosing or making available Personal Data to a third party in exchange for monetary or other valuable consideration, and “sharing” broadly includes disclosing or making available Personal Data to a third party for purposes of cross-context behavioral advertising or with affiliates and business partners. We do not disclose, sell, share, or rent your Personal Data to third parties in exchange for money or compensation. Further, we do not “sell” or “share” sensitive Personal Data, nor do we “sell” or “share” any Personal Data about individuals who we know are under the age of 16.
Depending on your browser or mobile device, you may be able to set your browser to delete or notify you of cookies and other tracking technology by actively managing the settings on your browser or mobile device. You may be able to limit interest-based advertising through the settings on your mobile device by selecting “limit ad tracking” (iOS) or “opt-out of interest based ads” (Android). Please note that opt-outs are browser specific, so opting out on one browser will not affect a second browser, or device. Moreover, if you buy a new device, use a different browser, or clear all your cookies, you will have to opt out all over again. To learn more about interest-based advertising and how you may be able to opt-out of some of this advertising, you may wish to visit the Network Advertising Initiative’s online resources, at http://www.networkadvertising.org/choices, and/or the DAA’s resources at www.aboutads.info/choices. You may also be able to opt-out of some – but not all – interest-based ads served by mobile ad networks by visiting http://youradchoices.com/appchoices and downloading the mobile AppChoices app. Note that some of these opt-outs may not be effective unless your browser is set to accept cookies. If you delete cookies, change your browser settings, switch browsers or computers, or use another operating system, you may need to opt-out again. - Right to Appeal: If you make a request to exercise any data access rights and we are unable to comply with your request, you may request an appeal of our decision. To appeal any data privacy request decision, please contact us by emailing support@crisisprevention.com with the subject line “Data Access Request Appeal.” If after you complete the appeal process with us, you are still unsatisfied with our response, you may contact your state Attorney General to file a complaint. 7. Managing Your Privacy Rights and Your Choices (For Users in the EU, UAE, and UK)
If you reside in the EU, UAE or UK, this Section will apply to you instead of Section 6.
If your access to the Site is provisioned by your employer subject to CPI’s Enterprise Terms of Use or a Master Service Agreement, then your employer is a controller with respect to any information you or your employer provide, or information otherwise collected through your registration and use of our Site for the purposes of receiving the services. This information typically includes first name, last name, business email address, and any other information you provide. Where your employer is a controller, CPI acts as a processor under data protection laws, meaning we use the information under instruction from your employer to provide a service to your employer. For the other purposes listed under Section 2 above, we are a controller.
If you are registered as a user of the Site under the CPI’s Individual Terms of Use, then CPI is a controller for all Personal Data processed as described in this Privacy Notice.
If you are in the EU, UAE or UK, you may at any time exercise the following rights:
- The right to request access to your Personal Data;
- The right to rectification or erasure of your Personal Data;
- The right to restrict the processing of your Personal Data in certain circumstances;
- The right to object to processing of your Personal Data in certain circumstances;
- The right to data portability in certain circumstances;
- Where data processing is based on your consent, the right to withdraw consent at any time; and
- The right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.
8. Enforcement and Dispute Resolution
Any questions or concerns regarding our use or disclosure of your Personal Data should be addressed to Customer Support at support@Crisisprevention.com. We will investigate and attempt to resolve any complaints and disputes regarding the use and disclosure of Personal Data in accordance with the provisions of this Privacy Notice and applicable law.
If you do not receive timely acknowledgment of your complaint from us, or if we have not resolved your complaint, please contact our third-party dispute resolution provider (free of charge) at https://feedback-form.truste.com/watchdog/request.
9. Retention of Personal Data
Generally, we will keep your Personal Data for the duration of our relationship with you.
